Professional Experience

Hin Loong holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of London (1997). He was admitted to the Malaysian Bar as an Advocate & Solicitor in the High Court of Malaya in 2000. He has more than 24 years’ experience in civil and commercial litigation and alternative dispute resolution. He was formerly a partner for 15 years in a well-known litigation and arbitration firm in Kuala Lumpur.

He regularly appears as counsel in the High Court, Court of Appeal and Federal Court of Malaysia. Hin Loong also appears as arbitrator, adjudicator and counsel in arbitration and adjudication proceedings.

He co-founded HL Wong, Soh & Co. in 2021.

Career Highlights

Acted as counsel for a sub-contractor in a construction arbitration against the main contractor involving a ‘pay when paid clause’. The matter was spantigated all the way to the Federal Court with the final judgment in favour of the sub-contractor. Acted as counsel for a co-defendant in an action filed in the High Court by the Plaintiff for breach of contract pertaining to a project for the design, installation, completion and commissioning of landfill gas extraction and flaring system in Hanoi, Vietnam. Acted as counsel for the Plaintiff in an action filed in the High Court against the Government of Malaysia for breach of statutory duty, trespass to land, nuisance and negligence. Acted as counsel for a shareholder in a winding up petition based on just and equitable ground against a company in the High Court. Acted for the liquidator of a company who filed an action in the High Court against the directors of the company for breach of fiduciary duties. Acted as counsel to defend an oil and gas company in a suit filed in the High Court for breach of contract by the operator of a petrol station. Acted as counsel for an oil and gas company in an action filed in the High Court against a legal firm for breach of trust.
